Mission
Statement, Goals and Ideas for WXXX
Mission
Statement
WXXX serves the
Kentuckiana Area helping to build the Body of Christ, Share the Gospel and Win
the Lost.
Goals
WXXX should reach the
majority of Christian listeners in the area with professional,
personality-oriented radio.
WXXX should build the
local church with encouragement and information, helping to further Christ's
cause through His chosen body. We
should encourage all listeners to actively participate in their chosen church.
WXXX should care for
local, national and international ministries with prayer, financial and
consulting support.
WXXX should strive
for the best music, best programming and best information with an emphasis on
the spiritual aspect of radio. We are called to be professional in our
delivery, and spiritual in our content.
WXXX should emphasize
"lifestyle Christianity" with special attention paid to urging the
listener to actively participate in spreading the Gospel.
WXXX air
personalities should be just that. Personalities. The Christian listener needs
to feel that the personalities are struggling (and succeeding) in their
personal walk with God, just like them. Special care must be taken to avoid the
"star" mentality, while still building a personal relationship with
the listener.
Ideas
Care should be taken
in hiring staff. The ideal WXXX full-time staff member will have a strong
commitment to the Lord, their family, his or her church and the community as a
whole. They should also have some years of experience in their chosen
occupation. The part-time staff member should have the initial qualities
mentioned, although experience is not always required. The best part-timers are
not necessarily those with experience, but those with desire. Time and effort
should be expended in developing all staff members. Remember, the legacy of a
station is not only the lives touched in the local area, but also lives touched
by those trained here and sent to other areas of the country.
WXXX should actively
maintain a "listener-supported" focus, with help from underwriters.
Lack of balance undermines the effectiveness of fund-raising. We should strive
for balance. An overabundance of either fund-raising spots or underwriting
announcements makes for a less professional sound.
The General Manager
is responsible for the direction of the station, spiritually, on-air and
fiscally. Just as the husband is called to be the spiritual head of the
household, the General Manager is the head of the radio station. Being
spiritual means focusing on Jesus, and His reaction to daily life. The General
Manager's main responsibility will be making sure the station remains
profitable spiritually and fiscally. Special care should be given to leadership
within the station. His or her emphasis should be getting people to do things
because they want to. The general atmosphere of the station should be one of
spirituality, vision and fun. Staff members should enjoy coming to work. The
General Manager should know where the station stands financially on a daily
basis. His or her responsibility is to ensure the bills are paid and the
station continues to develop fiscally.
The Program Director
is responsible for the overall sound of the station, under the guidance of the
General Manager. The Program Director should have an air-check session with
each full-time air staff person once per week, and once every month with the
part-time air staff. The Program Director should encourage each air personality
to develop their own personality on-air with an emphasis on the air
personality's Christian experience. WXXX will best serve the Lord by developing
talent to the degree that other stations clamor for a WXXX staff member because
they are so good. Talent should focus on being spiritual and fun.
The Music Director
supervises the music played on the air. The Music Director should seek counsel
from the Program Director and the General Manager about songs selected. Final
authority lies with the Program Director, but the Music Director's ideas and
picks are, most-generally, to be followed. He or she should be a Program
Director "in-training". This is a very important position to the
overall vision and goals of the station. Again, the focus here is to sound both
spiritual and fun.
The Sales Manager is
responsible for the establishment, maintenance and collection of underwriting
accounts. Special care should be taken to service the clients. Although
underwriter copy doesn't need to be changed as frequently as copy would at a
commercial station, each underwriter should be contacted once per month to make
sure they are aware of the overall station goals and direction.
The Office Manager is
responsible for the daily business needs of the station. She or he should be
acquainted with General Ledger procedures, and also understand the financial
needs of the station. Although this person will be responsible for paying the
bills, the ultimate authority and responsibility here lies with the General
Manager.
Finally, every effort
should be made to maintain high visibility to the public. The more people that
know about WXXX, the more Christians we can edify and the more non-believers we
can win to Christ.
After all, that's the
ultimate goal.
