Author, speaker and futurist, Leonard Sweet, gave the closing
address at the NRB banquet. He challenged us to look ahead over the next 30
years to find ways to follow God's pattern in sharing the gospel.
I had opportunity to sit next to him on the flight home and discussed fund
raising in the future. After describing to him our onair Sharathon model, I
asked if he thought the next generation of listener/donors would respond to the
same kind of appeal.
While he couldn't give a definitive answer he did give me several keys that
should be helpful when approaching the next generation of givers.
1. It's all about relationship and they expect to be treated as a partner in
the ministry.
2. They want individualistic attention and not to be included with the
"masses."
3. They need some sense of ownership in meeting needs.
4. Their giving has to really count for something.
5. They require interactive participation.
6. They need reassurance that their gift is an investment that will affect
change for the Kingdom of God.
7. They want accountability for how the money is spent.
I'm challenged to think through the practical application of those keys as we
produce onair fund raisers.
