When I am asked about my greatest day on the radio, this is the day: May 28, 1996. A tornado went through Bullitt County, Kentucky that day while I was on the air subbing for Terry Meiners. Ken Schultz and Tony Cruise are also on air that afternoon.
The next day, I was filling in again, and several people called to tell me that my work, along with my collegues, saved lives that day.
Here’s a clip of it from YouTube posted in 2014.
I am actually curious I’ve been tryingto find other radio station tornado warning coverages from back in the day. Having been born in 1986 I used to o a massive severe weather track at age 6 and up. Also Any weather radio archives of those severe weather events would be amazing.
A blind listener of radio, this is my biggest interest one of many.
Brandon,
I had not seen this until now. My apologies. Here are a couple I found:
Minneapolis WCCO https://youtu.be/z37FK8l1lOY?si=enA6t1RjVfGpk5dX
Louisville 1973 WHAS https://youtu.be/5orxm6fDKWQ?si=xb5V4Kcverk5YaS0
Hope this helps a bit.
Thanks for listening.
